On Sunday in the afternoon, you hear a very loud foghorn interrupting whatever it is you're doing! When you look up over the ocean, you'll see... an island! Whoa! We're almost there! In fact, we are there, so go get a last drink to go and get ready to disembark. It's hard to see the docks, because instead of wood, they're made of glass, for some reason. They're also currently being lapped by the ocean waves, which is why the yacht avoids them entirely and heads directly to the beach - an idealistic, beautiful place with soft white sand and sparkling blue waves. From this distance, you can see not only the beach, but an enormous mansion not too far from the sand. That looks nice... hope you're staying there, right? A second foghorn goes off, and you find yourself ushered to the gangplank by a troupe of very determined bunnies. These bunnies shove phones into your hands as you pass! You'll get a better look at them in a minute, because the bunnies do not stop there - they practically shove you off the boat down to the beach. Guarded by a pack of catfish-like creatures in little valet outfits, your home items will be there to receive you once you set foot on the soft, white sands. And just a few paces ahead, you spot three colorful figures...

New phone, who dis?

Yay, a phone! Wow, you've been set up with the works, huh? This is one of those fancy phones that cost more than half your yearly salary. Anyway, they've got plenty of features, and the best part is that they're constantly monitoring what you have to say at all times! Whoa! Your brand new Citrus Plus phone includes:

✦ Texting (as well as voice-to-text) ✦ Calling ✦ Video/Video Chat ✦ Notes functionality ✦ A camera ✦ A music player (called Smoothie) ✦ Full access to the Grapevine, an OnlyFruits exclusive network, as well as a selection of stickers, gifs, emoji, and more! ✦ Full access to the Fruit Juicer, an application for voting that seems to have no function outside of specific days ✦ Full access to Vitamin D, our specialized application that allows for you to get into your assigned team lounge! The D is for door.

You can add password protection to these phones, if you'd like. It can be through facial recognition, a six letter/number password, or a fingerprint scan. Your phone is the same color as your team (so orange, yellow, or green), and has a cute little fruit shaped charm hanging from it. It essentially looks like an iPhone, except how it isn't so we here at OnlyFruits don't get sued. And last but not least, it's not invincible! If you throw it, it'll shatter the screen or scuff the case, just like a normal phone. Don't drop it in the pool. You can get a new one, theoretically, but you don't want to know what the cost will be.

Yeah, it's my uniform. [ and honestly very cute, she likes it a good deal! ] I don't remember all the details, but if they were able to take us it makes sense they'd have a lot of info on us.

It's cute. Very, uh, mermaid-like. [ He will just come out and say it? He can see the vision. ] There's some info I'm sure some of us wish they'd left behind, but we're gonna have to work with what we have.

... so, it's been a while since you signed, too?

Yeah, I think so? I'm honestly not sure. I vaguely remember the terms, but it felt very... dream like. As if I was being pulled away from reality and offered something that couldn't possibly be achieved.

[syncer]

[ Sometimes you are simply a man written by Uchikoshi... ]

... think it's the first time I've heard it described that way. [ He doesn't think she's making it up, but he's curious now. ] And if it felt like a dream, it probably made it easier to say yes. Right?

[amabie]

Yeah. That's why we're all here, isn't it? We all said yes to a contract of some kind it seems. Guess it was that tempting.

[syncer]

Yeah. Some people remember it differently, or they remember signing a long time ago. There doesn't seem to be any sort of consistency and it's half the reason I want a second look at our contract.

[amabie]

I hope we can get it, but maybe they don't want us to see them. In case we try to change our mind, or just rip it up. Whatever is going on here can't be legal, right?

[ right??? ]

[syncer]

If they don't want us to see them, that's almost a sure sign they're hiding something and that's a worse look for them. [ As far as he's concerned, it'd be a lot more suspicious. ]

Depending on what's in the contract and how we signed it, it might be legal by this world's standards. That's... the real problem. We don't know enough yet.

[amabie]

Well surely that doesn't matter. We're not from 'this world', or wherever we are now. [ she sighs, dismayed. ] But you're right. We just don't know. And maybe not knowing is the whole point.

[syncer]

We're not, but... if you think about it like international laws, they might still apply. Like how you can't drive in another country without an international license, even if you're not from there.

I can't say I'm a fan of not knowing though. So... they're gonna have to put up with my questions.

[amabie]

Just... be careful. We don't know what the people who took us are capable of. If they're even people to begin with.

[syncer]

[ Ah... ]

... it's too early to be reckless, but it's a good time to test our limits. I'll be fine, and it'll help us understand a little more. You're right, we don't know what they're capable of, but... guess that's what our team leaders are for.

[amabie]

I did talk to one of them - Love - and they told me they don't have access to the contracts themselves. But also, we all "win" or "lose" as a team.

[syncer]

Makes sense to me. If we're playing together, our victories and failures are tied to each other. So... maybe we should get together with our teams and figure out what everybody's strengths and weaknesses are. See how we can make up for anything we might lack.

[amabie]

Sounds like good thinking. I noticed we're on the same team, so that's at least two of us together. [ n_n!! ] You're something of a natural leader, Junpei.

[syncer]

[ He grins because it's a positive sign having a teammate he'll actually get along with. Amame's been nothing but nice and reasonable in the bit he's gotten to know her. ]

Those seem like pretty good odds to me. But you think so? [ A little wry, like there's something he's not quite elaborating on but finds a bit ironic. ] I'd hate to take Love out of their job though.

Well Love is our leader, but they're still part of the management team. You're more like team leader material as someone on the squad!
