Good afternoon passengers, and welcome to the marvelous Scylla, heading directly for Napalm Springs... We are expected to arrive in approximately a time... Please enjoy your refreshments and entertainment while we make our way through the coral reef...

And with the startling boom of a foghorn, you awake on the deck of a boat. A superyacht, specifically! This isn't where you just were, but you should've seen this coming, right? Whether it was five minutes ago or five years ago, you signed a contract with a representative who told you they could make your dreams come true. Seems like your contract has activated! The OnlyFruits Media Group has collected each of you to shuttle off to a brand new season of The Vine, a reality show where three teams compete against each other for the chance to have their dearest dreams come true. There's always a twist (what sort of fruit would we be if there wasn't some sort of zest), but... you aren't quite sure what that twist might be just yet. Is that anxiety you're feeling, or are you just seasick? Anyway. When you wake up, you'll find that you are all dressed in dapper formal clothing. What a way to make a first impression! To both you and your... fans, potentially, since you get the sense that you're being watched, even if you're not sure how. If you have personal belongings, you won't find them for now - maybe they got sent ahead to your location already? And yes, this includes pets. Oh no. But there's nothing to be done about it. You might as well enjoy your stay on the Scylla, for now. And maybe meet your future potential teammates and rivals, while you're at it?

YO HO HO HO

In the words of Twerking With the Stars season 15 winner, Smdy Aamberg: You're on a boat! (You're on a boat!) You're on a boat! (You're on a boat!) Everybody look at you 'cause you're sailing on a boat!

It's a little packed on this ship, but for the most part? You're not too crowded. It's made to carry about forty people, so there's enough space to spread out. You can even find little places to be alone, should you so wish. Mostly. Again, you think there might be cameras, but you can't see any of them and even if you could, you wouldn't be able to break them. The main attraction of the ship is the cabin on the deck. Inside the cabin is a fully stocked bar, complete with mixers and garnishes. A fridge with pre-made meals spans across the underside of this bar, and there's enough in there for everybody on board to have at least three meals a day. How does it all fit? Just trust us, it does. If you try to take more than your fair share, you'll get electrocuted by a mysterious force, so maybe don't do that. Or do, if you're into that kind of thing.

There are tables and booths inside the cabin to hang out in, as well as a dance floor smack dab in the middle of the floorspace. There is a disco ball hanging down from the ceiling in the center of the multicolored dancefloor. From nine PM to midnight, this plays in the cabin, so enjoy your clubbing. At least it's not able to be heard outside of the cabin itself, so if you want to sleep, you can do so on the deck. There's a bunch of lounge chairs out there, go wild. Speaking of, aside from the lounge chairs, on the deck is a small pool with a hot tub extension. It's perfect for lazing about with a drink, or getting to know your fellow contestants. And why did we tell you to find a lounge chair to sleep in? Well, unfortunately all of the rooms in the sleeping quarters are locked and cannot be opened by any means, save for one. This room has one king-sized waterbed with a funhouse mirror on the ceiling directly above it, an armchair in the corner, and nothing else. The door to this room does not lock, and is weirdly warm. You can sleep here. Not sure why you'd want to, but you can. And yes, there are bathrooms. Public ones, with stalls and sinks. There is one shower. Keep that in mind. At the very back of the yacht is what appears to be the engine room, or something like it. It's locked, but the sign on the door reads:

YOUR CAPTAIN TODAY IS FLYINGWAY. PLEASE ENJOY YOUR TRIP TO THE ISLAND.

No amount of brute force or wits can break into this room. If you try to get in anyway, do let us know.

I haven't, either, but it was pretty good. Let me find it again... [ she starts looking for where she left it, humming thoughtfully. ] Luccia's clear across the continent, and in the mountains, so it can be difficult to get to. Nevermind when winter comes around.

[ furry russia. she leans up and grabs the bottle of apple brandy with a soft ah-ha before continuing. ]

Where are you from? I'm getting used to no one knowing about the continent of Rodinia now.

[ Furry Russia... he doesn't even know shit about real world Russia, but he can guess what kind of place it is. ]

Yeah, with the snow and ice it'd be even harder to navigate, I bet. [ Can't relate, but there's a somewhat sheepish smile. ] I'm from a place where I've never heard of Rodinia, so add me to that number. Does "Earth" sound familiar at all?

[ she nods to that as she pours a pull from the apple brandy, sliding the glass across to him so that he can try it. ]

To me, earth is the ground that you walk on - so that'd be a no from me, friend. Sounds a bit like we're all getting pulled from very, very different places, and that says a lot about the power of whoever wrote that paperwork.

[ Thank you for your service, he will take the glass and give it a curious sniff. ]

I'm getting that impression, too. Makes you wonder just how far they went to set this thing up. And why... actually, uh, the why is my big question. How did they find enough people who would play for a wish? And why be so "generous" to offer the chance?

[ mm apple. warm, crisp, a little... oaky, i guess? autumnal is what google says. rawiyah pours herself about two fingers worth of it to drink while they talk. ]

The generosity is the curious thing. But you throw a stone in a crowd, you're more than liable to hit someone that has a wish they'd be willing to put a lot on the line for. Pick and choose from across multiple... worlds, places, whatever, and you have more than a few folks to make an offer to.

As for why... entertainment, it sounds like? I'm not too sure about it myself, though.

[ We love autumnal... he seems pleased with this and takes a sip. ]

Especially if you're not scaling the size of a wish. Even the word "wish" can mean something different to a lot of people. I bet if you asked you'd have a hard time finding a group who are all here for exactly the same thing. It just seems like a lot of effort on the company's part.

And then it makes you wonder who, exactly, we're supposed to be entertaining. What's our audience?

Oh, definitely. Your wish and my wish are probably a decent jump apart, and some people could have just wished for their time in front of an audience and gotten just that. Easy peasy.

[ sips thoughtfully. ]

Kid with purple hair that was all smiles said it was a reality show, something full of drama that always has people watching it? Not something we've got back home, so I'm not too sure what the total meaning of it could be, but... it does feel like we're being watched.

There has to be at least one person who's looking for their quick shot at fame. Reality TV's the easiest way to do it.

[ "Then again, you have to look at those people's morals..." ]

That sounds about right though, yeah. Reality TV's supposedly unscripted and all real all the time, but that's not interesting enough. We're about to be watched in all places, all the time, and we may not get a choice in how the audience sees us.

I'll take your - and his - word for it. I don't think I'd find it very entertaining, myself, but more power I guess.

[ the idea of watching a group of peoples' lives day in, day out, for drama... ]

Pff. They'll see me how they see me, so let them think what they like. Unless they're going to put us on trial, I don't exactly have anything to prove to anyone and even less of a desire to do that.

You don't have to be entertaining yourself. That's the job of the cameramen and producers, they'll find an angle to make it look different than it really is.

But that's kinda how I feel about it, too. [ He shrugs. ] I don't have much to prove, but... they did talk about sponsorships. If those are gonna count in the competition, we might need to think about how to get support.

Then that's on them. [ said with a laugh. ] I'm not gonna go out of my way for it unless necessary, but we'll see what the competition entails.

[ her head tilts a little as she takes another sip. ]

If it's anything like a sponsorship in a fighting tournament, I guess that's going to be the "unless necessary," but... how familiar are you with these kinda things?

Competition shows? I've seen a few but I've never participated. Never really had to deal with fans or sponsorships either, but when you think about it it makes sense. Just how many fighting tournaments have you been in though?

That's still better than what I could say... [ people who have watched competition shows and reality TV are gonna have to help the ye oldes. but she... laughs? ] Oh, man, I don't even know at this point. I stopped counting a long while back.

If I said you weren't missing much, is that better or worse? [ He's helping. ] But that's a little impressive. Are you like a boxer or something... ?

[ Decides Rawiyah is an MMA cage fighter. ]

Ehhh. [ shrugs, sort of who's to say? because at least she'd have a better idea of what she's getting herself into. ]

I know hand-to-hand, but I'm usually wielding a sword in fights. These days I'm a mercenary, though, and every now and then a fighting tournament is a great way to blow off steam and earn some coin.

[ He peers around her as if he's looking for this mystery sword... ]

Just another thing our lovely crew took from us before we boarded, I guess? [ Annoying. But he seems intrigued by this. Maybe he's never met a mercenary before...? ] Mercenaries are, like, the people who take random jobs right? If you're good at it I don't see why joining a fight's a bad option. How long have you been training?

[ she does a little turn, to show that she's not packing. unfortunately. ]

You wouldn't miss my sword if it were here, I'll tell you that. [ big. ] But yeah, more or less. I lead a mercenary group, and we fight enemies that cause problems for the everyday man, the folks just trying to live their lives, while also doing more simple requests. Chopping wood, helping in the fields, doing deliveries...

Training, though... man... most of my life, at this point.

[ Boooooo. ]

Remind me not to ever be on the other end of it then. [ Haha. ] That's pretty impressive. Not exactly the kind of thing just anybody gets into for fun, you know? Not sure I could hack it myself. Then again, if it's been years...
